Law firms hold confidential matters, identity documents and settlement funds. Legal, accounting and management services firms reported 81 data breaches to the OAIC in 2025. In the same year Australians lost $166.8 million to payment redirection, where a criminal changes the bank details on an invoice or payment request. For a firm, one incident can mean notifying clients and a difficult conversation with your insurer.
Since 1 July 2026, Australia's AML/CTF laws also apply to lawyers and conveyancers who provide certain services (AUSTRAC). That brings more client identity information into your systems. We help secure your technology and data.

No. Since 1 July 2026, AML/CTF obligations apply to law firms that provide certain services, such as conveyancing and property transfers, forming companies or trusts, handling or transferring client money, or acting on the sale or purchase of a business. Ordinary legal work is not captured just because the provider is a lawyer. Whether your firm is captured, and what you need to do, is a question for your legal adviser, so please confirm your obligations with them. Our role is the technology behind those obligations: securing the systems that hold client identity information, controlling who can access it, managing how long it is kept, and giving you evidence of the controls in place. We'll help with your technology and data controls, not determine your legal obligations, and our work does not make your firm compliant on its own.
