Cyber security for accounting firms.

Your firm holds tax file numbers, bank details and financial records for every client. efex protects that data with a 24x7 security operations centre, so a cyber incident doesn't become a breach of client trust.

01 // The risk

Your clients' data makes your firm worth targeting.

Legal, accounting and management services firms reported 81 data breaches to the OAIC in 2025. One breach can expose many clients at once. A fake invoice or changed bank details sent from a firm clients trust is easy to believe, and an outage at lodgement time costs fees and goodwill.

Since 1 July 2026, Australia's AML/CTF laws also apply to accountants who provide certain services (AUSTRAC). That brings more client identity information into your systems. We help secure your technology and data.

05 // FAQ

Questions, answered.

No. Since 1 July 2026, AML/CTF obligations apply to accounting practices that provide certain services, such as forming companies or trusts, managing client money or assets, acting on the sale or purchase of a business, or providing a registered office. Ordinary accounting work is not captured just because the provider is an accountant. Whether your practice is captured, and what you need to do, is a question for your legal adviser, so please confirm your obligations with them. Our role is the technology behind those obligations: securing the systems that hold client identity information, controlling who can access it, managing how long it is kept, and giving you evidence of the controls in place. We'll help with your technology and data controls, not determine your legal obligations, and our work does not make your practice compliant on its own.
